So... I just caught myself exclaiming "mein Gott!" because I was eating a biscuit which is ...so delicious.
This will seem a ridiculous question, but I wondered ...is that taking the Lord's name in vain? Because... I really am incredibly grateful for how delicious these biscuits are and my opportunity to experience that. I really would like to thank God for that...

It's just "my God". It came out German because I had a habit of saying simple expressions in German for fun a while ago.

I know but people still take it to mean basically any trivialising use of references to God.

Praise be given to God the Father,
praise be to God his only Son;
praise be to God the Holy Ghost
for ever and always.

It's from Martin Luthers translation of Veni, redemptor gentium by Saint Ambrose, Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland. The Johann Hermann Schein version of which is one of my fave songs http://www.last.fm/music/Johann+Hermann+Schein.

i really like this, the chorus singing and the instruments. what kind of music is this? what are the instruments?

i have heard music similar to this, one called Cuncti Simus Concanentes: Ave Maria. but it is not the same style, no?

I've read that 'taking God's name in vain' was originally talking about not breaking contracts and promises where you had 'sworn to God' that you would do XYZ. This was around the same time I read that the Islamic hajib (I think I have that wrong) was cultural and not originally part of the religion at all though, so take it with a grain of salt.
